Título: Autoestigma en mujeres con cáncer ginecológico y su asociación con ansiedad, depresión y calidad de vida

Resumen

Introduccion: Esta investigación tiene como objetivo establecer si el autoestigma, los síntomas de ansiedad y depresión, y la calidad de vida se encuentran relacionadas entre sí en pacientes con cáncer ginecológico. Método: Este estudio hace uso de un diseño no experimental de alcance correlacional transversal. La muestra de tipo no probabilística e intencionada quedó conformada por 114 pacientes institucionalizadas y no institucionalizadas de Madrid. Como consecuencia de las medidas sanitarias tomadas por el gobierno para frenar la propagación de la COVID-19, la atención hospitalaria se redujo drásticamente, por ese motivo, se establecieron coordinaciones con la Asociación de Afectados por Cáncer de Ovario (ASACO) a fin de que sus asociadas puedan participar de este estudio. A todas las participantes de la muestra se les envío, en formato digital, tres cuestionarios para evaluar cada una de las variables en estudio. Los datos fueron procesados con el apoyo del paquete estadístico SPSS versión 27. Resultados: Los resultados revelan la presencia de autoestigma en niveles relativamente bajos (10,5%). Se informa también la existencia de correlaciones significativas y negativas entre el autoestigma —a excepción de la dimensión resistencia al estigma— y la calidad de vida, cuyas dimensiones incluyen las escalas funcionales, de síntomas y el estado global de salud. Así mismo se encontraron correlaciones negativas entre el autoestigma y la ansiedad y depresión, salvo el caso de resistencia al estigma. Conclusiones: Estos resultados permiten concluir que la presencia de autoestigma en las pacientes es una condición que puede influir en su calidad de vida, ansiedad y depresión. Un resultado a investigar con mayor profundidad, es el que indica que las pacientes institucionalizadas presentan menor nivel de autoestigma que aquellas que no son institucionalizadas.

Abstract

Introduction: This research has as objective to establish whether the self-stigma, the symptoms of anxiety and depression, and the quality of life are related among them in gynaecological cancer patients. Method: This study uses a non-experimental design of a correlational transversal scope. The non-probabilistic purposive sample was composed by 114 patients, both institutionalised and non-institutionalised, from Madrid. As a result of the sanitary measures taken by the government to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the medical attention in hospitals was drastically reduced, for this reason, it was coordinated with the Association of Affected Patients by Ovarian Cancer (ASACO, per its Spanish acronym) so that their associates could partake in this study. To every participant, three questionnaires were sent to evaluate each one of the studied variables. The data was processed using the statistical package SPSS version 27. Results: The results reveal the presence of self-stigma in relatively low levels (10,5%). It is also informed the existence of significant and negative correlations between the self-stigma —except for the resistance to stigma dimension— and the quality of life, which dimensions include the functional, symptoms and the general health status scales. Moreover, significant negative correlations were found between the self-stigma and the anxiety and depression, except for the resistance to stigma. Conclusions: These results let conclude that the presence of self-stigma in the patients is a condition that can have an influence on their quality of life, anxiety, and depression. A result that should be further researched is the one that indicates that institutionalised patients have lower levels of self-stigma than those who are not institutionalised.
